Talkin' Pets with host Jon Patch is a lively, educated, fun conversation and call in pet show about the animals that share our lives. Jon and guest Veterinarians and Trainers can help pet parents cope with medical and behavioral questions related to all kinds of domestic animals. In a 70 billion dollar a year industry, this program 30 years on air, with stand-alone hours also features news on animal welfare, wildlife, farming and environmental issues that affect animals everywhere as well as national interviews with celebrities like Betty White, Bob Barker, Linda Blair, Tippi Hedren, Greg Louganis and Dean Koontz just to name a few. Organizations, such as the ASPCA, HSUS, AKC, WKC, LCA, AHA, NatGeo, NatGeo Wild and Animal Planet have all joined Talkin’ Pets with Jon.  He has hosted remotes from The Genesis Awards in Los Angeles for more than a decade and The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in NYC since 1993. He has conducted live interviews with international authors, pet product CEO’s and other pet companies that join Jon to discuss and give away their books and products to pet parents. Jon Patch chats with Robert Likins, Vice President of Government Affairs for the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC) about the new rule book for pets traveling with their owners or alone on United Airlines flights.  The new rules, effective June 18, come after the Chicago-based airline suspended transportation of pets for a month while the carrier reviewed its policies in the wake of the death of a French bulldog after it was placed in an overhead luggage compartment on a three-hour United flight.

Jon Patch talks with Dr. Richard Goldstein, Chief Medical Officer of the Animal Medical Center in New York City about Leptospirosis.  Leptospirosis is being seen in dogs in more and more places across the U.S. The bacterial disease presents with non-specific symptoms such as lethargy, lack of appetite, changes in urination frequency and vomiting.

“We see leptospirosis every week,” said Richard Goldstein, DVM, chief of medicine at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. The hospital is a referral center for dogs from the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area, including “dogs who never leave Manhattan.”

Jon Patch talks to Debora Bresch, Senior Director of Government Relations for the ASPCA about the new NJ bill governing pet stores.  The purpose of the bill, which the state Senate Economic Growth Committee approved, is to make consumers aware of whether their pets were born in “puppy mills” that house the animals in inhumane conditions.

Under the bill (S1870), when selling a cat or dog, pet stores most post on its cage or enclosure the breeder’s name, address, phone number and United States Department of Agriculture license number. The information would be required in internet and print advertisements as well.

Episode 123 - Let the Tornado Come

Episode 84 - Talkin' with Tippi

Jon welcomes film star, Tippi Hedren, most well-known for her roles in two Alfred Hitchcock films, The Birds and Marnie, and her extensive efforts in animal rescue at Shambala Preserve, an 80-acre wildlife habitat which she founded in 1983.

Tippi began her long love affair with wild animals in 1969 while doing a film, Satan's Harvest, in Africa. She "met" a mellow lion, and much of her life since then has been devoted to the big cats. Deeply involved with international conservation groups to save wildlife, and an outspoken voice against cruelty to animals, both wild and domestic, she's a board member of "The Wildlife Safari", founded by her friend, Frank Hart, in Winston, Oregon. Jenna Morasca is an actress, former swimsuit model and American reality TV contestant who was the million-dollar grand prize winner of Survivor: The Amazon and previously worked for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.

Ethan Zohn is an American reality television series contestant who won $1,000,000 on Survivor: Africa, the third season of the reality TV series Survivor. Zohn also appeared on the All-Stars edition of the show. After winning Survivor he co-founded Grassroot Soccer, which uses soccer to raise money and awareness to fight HIV/AIDS. On August 20, 2008, he began a 500-mile soccer dribble from Foxboro, Massachusetts to Washington, D.C. for that cause.

Robert William "Bob" Barker is an American former television game show host. He is best known for hosting CBS's The Price Is Right from 1972 to 2007, making it the longest-running daytime game show in North American television history, and for hosting Truth or Consequences from 1956 to 1975.
