Joe Gaydos, DVM



Dr. Gaydos is a wildlife veterinarian whose research focuses on diseases of free ranging wildlife and its impact on wildlife, domestic animal, and human health. He is based on Orcas Island (Washington) and is focused on wildlife health issues in the Puget Sound Georgia Basin region. Specifically, his recent research has focused on diseases of marine mammals including harbor seals, harbor porpoise, Dall's porpoise, killer whales, and marine foraging river otters. Also he is interested in the capture and chemical immobilization of wildlife and has worked to assist biologists with the capture and chemical immobilization of numerous species of birds and mammals. Additionally, Dr. Gaydos works with regional resource managers and policy people to make sure that good scientific information is incorporated into management and policy. He is a governor-appointed representative to the Northwest Straits Commission and the Science Working Group for the Governor's effort to restore Puget Sound.
