Isaiah Schaffer

Isaiah served in the United States Marines from June 2002 through June 2006. He completed three tours in Iraq as an infantryman. He was engaged in many battles including Fallujah and Hiditha along with the main push into Iraq. He returned to the United States after a traumatic brain injury in 2005. His mom heard about the Dog Tag Program through Puppies Behind Bars that places services dogs with Iraq and Afghanistan veterans free of charge. Isaiah applied and the rest is history.

He was placed with his service dog, Meghan, a chocolate lab. And now Isaiah says that although he still suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Meghan is the best thing that happened to him. Through a series of commands, she is able to assist him in dealing with the triggers of PTSD and alleviating some of the stress that would prohibit him from living life to the fullest. With Meghan's unconditional love and support, Isaiah is now able to live a much productive life.
