Do you think the ancient tradition of sheep herding is extinct? Think again! Shepherd, author, and photographer, Cat Urbigkit visits with Marcie and Whistle about the flock of sheep she keeps in the Green River basin area south of Yellowstone National Park with her amazing guardian dogs, Abe, Rant, Rena and Luv’s girl. You’ll want to listen in as Cat talks about some of the dangers these working dogs encounter every night as they patrol the open Wyoming range in search of aggressive predators such as wolves, mountain lions and bears. Cat also talks about the lessons she’s learned from these animals in her latest book, Shepherds of Coyote Rocks: Public Lands, Private Herds and the Natural World.

Cat Urbigkit is an award-winning writer and photographer based on a western Wyoming sheep ranch, where she receives much inspiration for her work.
She has written and photographed seven non-fiction book titles for children, all published by Boyds Mills Press. Her first adult non-fiction title, Yellowstone Wolves, was published by McDonald & Woodward Publishing in 2008. Her new book, Shepherds of Coyote Rocks, was released in September 2012 from The Countryman Press. All titles are available from your regular book sellers. In March 2013, Cat's first nonfiction e-book for kids was released by Long Draw Publishing.
Cat is the author of a Wolf Watch news blog, and is a contributing writer to Stephen Bodio’s Querencia nature blog. Her photographs of ranch life and wildlife have appeared in numerous books and magazines, and her daily Facebook posts are popular.
