Thom Somes "The Pet Safety Guy" promotes caring, conscientious, responsible and loving pet ownership through teaching, speaking and media appearances. "The Pet Safety Guy" advocates pet owner first aid emergency preparedness plans and pet adoptions from animal shelters and rescue organizations.

In addition, he emphasizes the importance of spaying and neutering, pet insurance, establishing a good relationship with veterinarians and the early socialization and obedience training of all pets.

Thom has been in the medical field for over 20 years and is a Regional Faculty Member at the Scripps Mercy Hospital. He is a seasoned instructor and presenter. Thom is an American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor, a Medic First Aid Corporate Trainer, Pet Tech Instructor Trainer and has instructed over 10,000 students in First Aid, Basic Life Support and Pet First Aid & Care.

As President of Pet Tech, Inc., he developed the Pet Tech family of programs and is the author of the Pet First Aid & Care Handbook. He has volunteered as a veterinary assistant at several animal hospitals and emergency centers. Thom is an accomplished speaker and has appeared for the California Contractors Association, Assemblyman Howard Wayne, Pet Sitters International, Puppyworks and Barkleigh Productions just to name a few. Thom is a lifelong lover of pets and currently takes his two English Springer Spaniels to work with him.
