Dr. Miller co-edited the first textbook on shelter medicine, Shelter Medicine for Veterinarians and Staff (Blackwell Publishing, 2004) with Dr. Stephen Zawistowski, Executive VP of the ASPCA and Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist). She is a contributing writer for many publications that cater to companion animals and shelter medicine, including: Animal Sheltering, Dog Fancy and New York Tails. She is currently working on a textbook devoted to the management of infectious diseases in shelters.
Dr. Miller received both her bachelor of animal science and veterinary degrees from Cornell University. She has worked for the ASPCA for over 25 years in both the shelter and as director of its former Brooklyn clinic.
Dr. Miller received the 1999 award for Outstanding Contribution to Veterinary Medicine from the NYC Veterinary Medical Association, and in 2005, she was awarded the Hills Award for Animal Welfare and Humane Ethics from the American Animal Hospital Association. She also served as a member and chairman of the board for Veterinary Medicine in New York State.
