Becky Robinson is president and co-founder of Alley Cat Allies, the nation’s only advocacy organization dedicated to the protection and humane treatment of cats.  Based in Bethesda, Md., the mission of Alley Cat Allies is to end the killing of cats in our nation’s pounds and shelters, which is the leading documented cause of death for cats in the United States today.

Robinson co-founded Alley Cat Allies in 1990, after she realized that there was no national organization dedicated to providing education and resources to the thousands of Americans already caring for the outdoor cats in their communities.   Under Robinson’s leadership, Alley Cat Allies established the first best-practice standards for Trap-Neuter-Return programs in the United States.  Today, with more than 170,000 supporters all over the world, Alley Cat Allies is the recognized authority on feral cats, and the face and voice for the growing movement within the U.S. to end the institutionalized killing of cats in shelters and to promote humane methods of care.

Alley Cat Allies works with animal control agencies, shelters, veterinarians, communities and local governments to help them move away from failed “catch and kill” approaches to animal control and toward community-based approaches, including Trap-Neuter-Return, a program in which outdoor cats are humanely trapped, altered, vaccinated and returned to their outdoor homes.  It also promotes and advises on affordable spay and neuter as well as humane education on how outdoor cats and humans can co-exist in harmony.

Alley Cat Allies has helped many communities across the country implement Trap-Neuter-Return programs, including Washington, D.C., Cape May, N.J., Orange County, Fla. and Buffalo City, Wis.  It has also provided support to thousands of caring individuals and grassroots groups, many of whom faced misunderstanding from neighbors or community leaders about the benefits of Trap-Neuter-Return and the cruelty of our failed animal control system.

Robinson has more than a decade of experience running large-scale feral cat programs, including establishing three spay and neuter clinics in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area that serve as models for feral cat veterinary care. She regularly speaks at conferences in North America and Europe.

Robinson holds an M.A., Public Administration, from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and a B.A., Social Work, from Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas.
