Laurie Williams
Laurie Williams CPDT and her 6 year old Maltese dog Andrew may have been runners-up on the CBS summer reality show Greatest American Dog, but they are America’s designated champions in demonstrating the beautiful, mutually respectful relationship that can result from positive, dog-friendly training.
This dynamic team single-handedly helped redefine what we think of when we hear the word “dog.” Little Andrew, with his diminutive size, long, flowing white coat and show dog looks might not have been the ideal that comes to mind, but their inspiring performance has led many to think twice! Despite a multitude of obstacles this Mighty Mite not only kept up with his larger counterparts, but often outshined them two-fold. His courage, tenacity and loyalty to his partner Laurie took him all the way to the top!
Teaching a dog to perform specific behaviors is really not that difficult. Getting that dog to perform those behaviors happily and consistently is the challenge. Laurie employs a positive, dog-friendly approach that not only promotes consistency and an eagerness to work, but cultivates a loving, mutually respectful and trusting relationship between the dog and his person. As a result you not only have an obedient, well mannered dog, but one who respects rather than fears you.
Andrew has his AKC and UKC (United Kennel Club) Companion Dog titles as well as multiple AKC and APDT rally obedience titles. He was awarded the Highest Scoring Dog in trial at the Town & Country Kennel Club in May 2007 and was the #1 AKC Rally Novice dog in 2006. He has been a working therapy dog for 4 years, certified through the Delta Society Pet Partner program. He was one of only 10 therapy dogs in the country invited to the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial Dedication on Thursday, September 11, 2008.
Laurie is a dynamic motivational speaker and offers workshops, seminars and lectures to enhance the human/dog relationship.
