About Jane Hoffman:

Jane Hoffman has been the President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals since its inception in 2002. In 2005, the Alliance was awarded a $5 million dollar multi year grant from the ASPCA and a $23.5 million dollar multi year grant from Maddie's Fund to help make NYC a city in which no cat or dog is killed simply because he or she does not have a home.

Prior to helping create the Alliance, Jane was in solo/private practice, specializing in executive compensation and estate planning. Before she started her own law practice, she was a Vice President and Senior Consultant at Handy Associates, a management-consulting firm and an associate at the law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, where she specialized in taxation and executive compensation.

Jane is a Founding Member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York's Committee on Legal Issues Pertaining to Animals and the current Chair. The Committee, which formed in 1990, is one of the first animal law committees in the country. Jane moderated many of the Committees popular evening programs and annual conferences including the 1999 groundbreaking conference entitled "The Legal Status of Non-Human Animals".

In January 2002, Jane was invited to speak at the Bohnett Animal Law Lecture Services at UCLA Law School on "The Role of Bar Association Committees on the Development of Animal Law".
In August of 2007 Jane received the 2007 Annual Excellence in the Advancement of Animal Law Award from the American Bar Association (ABA) TIPS section at the ABA Annual Conference held in San Francisco.

In connection with her work with the Alliance, Jane continues to speak extensively around the country on the public - private partnership as a replicable model for bringing together animal welfare groups to develop creative solutions to companion animal overpopulation and animal control issues. Alliances modeled on the NYC Alliance now exist in many other municipalities and regions across the country.

Jane has a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, an M.L.S. from Long Island University and a B.A. from Boston College.

 

About The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, Inc.

Founded in 2002, The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals is working with the City of New York toward the day when no New York City dog or cat of reasonable health and temperament is killed merely because he or she does not have a home.To achieve that goal, the Alliance, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, has formed a public-private partnership with the City of New York to develop creative solutions to deal with issues of animal care and control in New York City. The Mayor's Alliance public-private partnership is setting — and being recognized as — a national model for community animal rescue efforts. Groups in Baltimore, Buffalo, Long Island, Ohio, Texas, Albuquerque, and Tulsa now have or are working to create animal alliances replicating the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals' successful model.
