Paul Hammond has worked all over the world combatting domestic and international terrorism and training K9s to serve alongside their military and private security handlers as indispensable assets in that fight Paul talks with Marcie and Lovey about the principled training these dogs and their handlers receive, the K9s acute olfactory abilities and how they are used to detect body-worn explosives on a moving target. These multi-disciplined K9 teams are trained to be deployed in settings ranging from concert venues to airports throughout the world. Paul also discusses their innovative partnership with Auburn University and their ability to breed these high-performing K9s.
BIO:
30+ years’ Working dog experience,
22yrs of which seen continuous canine operations in hostile environments; 7yrs directing canine programs in support of high-profile government organizations; including the US Department of State and the Department of Defense in Iraq and Afghanistan
15 years of continuous canine operations in Northern Ireland deployed with the British Military Parachute Regiment & the Army Dog Unit, during some of the most challenging & hostile times in its history; completing over 2,000 recorded operational detection tasks, against live explosive devices.
Paul completed 6yrs as a working dog adviser in support of the British Government Defense Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) and more recently worked alongside Auburn University`s Canine Research & Development Program on various US Canine Defense & Research projects.
Paul had recently returned from briefing the EU Working Dog Commission (representatives of 22 – countries) on Body-worn Explosive K9 Detection, highlighting the latest k9 technology – Vapor Wake®.
In addition Paul is the President of the Cargo Screening K9 Alliance®, Founder/Owner K9Employment.com (Handler Recruitment Agency) and Founder of the U.S. Canine Biathlon® (largest national canine endurance race).
