David Ceely is the Executive Director and C.F.O. of Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center.  Little Shelter is Long Island's first Humane Society and was established 95 years ago in 1927 and sits on 6 wooded acres in Huntington NY.  He began his service to the animals at Little Shelter, as a volunteer for the organization in 2002.  During his time as a volunteer for the organization he gained extensive experience in the world of animal rescue, animal socialization and fundraising.

David's prior professional experience includes working for Petco Foundation where he was the foundation's representative for Long Island. His responsibilities included managing the relationship between the foundation and 17 animal welfare groups in Petco stores.  It was here that David was recognized with The Chairman's Award in 2007 from Petco,  for his passion for getting homeless, abandoned and abused animals adopted into loving homes.

Under David's leadership Little Shelter has won many honors and awards.  Little Shelter won Best Not-for-Profit in Huntington N.Y. in 2017, and has been voted  Best Animal Shelter and Best Animal Rescue on Long Island every year since David has been in place, 2010 through 2021, by The Long Island Press.

David has had helped Little Shelter grow significantly during his tenure and has executed many historical advancements for Little Shelter.  In 2010, David's first major accomplishment was adding a surgery room right on the grounds of the shelter, which was a dream that was 20 years in the making for the organization's  Board of Directors.   In 2012 under his direction Little Shelter expanded its sanctuary, a 110 acre refuge exclusive to the organization's dogs,  in upstate N.Y. to  provide 24/7/365, lifetime care for any overlooked resident,  allowing Little Shelter to be a true no-kill shelter.

In 2015 David secured sponsorship to create a dog park created from one and a half acres of unused land at Little Shelter.  This dog park is exclusive to Little Shelter residents and allows them to run off leash, play ball and perform agility.  And in 2015 David added a state of the art medical isolation room, to house new shelter residents until they are safely and medically evaluated. This room was a tremendous component since under David's direction, Little Shelter's outreach has broadened from Local to national to global rescue.  David continues to set goals for Little Shelter  to intensify its impact on the animal welfare industry and more lives can be saved.

David lives in N.Y. on Long Island with his four dogs P.J., Geroges St. Pierre, Pixie and Uncle Magic, all of which, are senior or special needs. He believes strongly in volunteering and currently serves on the media and communications committee for The Lake Ronkonkoma Improvement Group,  which aims to preserve the community and its history in which he lives.
