Holly Ganz + Kari Goodman: Data, Science, and the Beauty of Poop
Dustin talks to the founders of AnimalBiome about the science and engineering behind their DNA testing platform that helps people improve their pets' gut and overall health through cutting edge diagnostic tools and therapeutic applications.
BIO:
Holly H. Ganz, PhD, CEO and founder of AnimalBiome, is a microbiologist, who studied at UC Davis and UC Berkeley and has published more than 20 papers. She left academia to become an entrepreneur when she founded AnimalBiome in the fall of 2016. AnimalBiome uses systems biology to create microbiome-based diagnostics and supplements to help the more than 9 million cats and dogs in the US living with chronic digestive disorders. Her efforts to translate academic research into solutions for pet parents began when she launched KittyBiome, a citizen science project that she started while working at UC Davis in 2015. From the KittyBiome project, she came to appreciate that digestive disorders are common in pets and that there is a pressing need for better solutions.
Kari Goodman is a data scientist who studied Biology at the University of Montana, did a PhD and a postdoc at UC Berkeley in evolutionary biology and did the Insight Data Science fellowship.
