Insuring Dignity at the End
of a Friendship
That moment when a pet slips from being a part of your family to being a memory can be one filled with a quiet peace or regrets. If you are a fortunate pet parent, you have been given time…time to consider the passing…time to soak in the essence of your pet and time to insure that your companion has been kept comfortable and passes with dignity.
My guest is Canadian veterinarian, Dr. Lianna Titcombe. She is currently the president of the International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care, an association focused on comfort-oriented care to companion animals as they approach the end of life.
BIO:
Dr. Titcombe began her career in veterinary medicine, following her graduation from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1999. She has since worked in emergency medicine and critical care, general practice, and with shelters and animal rescue organizations, both locally and abroad. In 2000 she took over the Pet Loss Support Group of Ottawa, acting as director and group facilitator. For the past 5 years, she has worked exclusively in end-of-life home care, as a mobile hospice veterinarian. She is the proud president of the International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care, and chair of the international committee. Dr. Titcombe is leading the veterinary hospice movement in Canada, bringing dignity and comfort to companion animals during their end of life.
