Dog Minded

Isabel Alvarez Arata on Pet Life Radio

In Episode 8, Isabel interviews her dear friend and former business partner, Beth Wherry Acker. Since they decided to close down their in-home pet care business, The Wag Pack, back in August 2020, Beth and Isabel have both been busy reinventing themselves in the pet care industry. Isabel launched Covered in Pet Hair and Beth launched Dog Minded Training, where she works with dogs and their families one-on-one, board dogs in her home, and even offers board-and-train and doggie day care training options.

During the show, Isabel quizzes Beth on her dog-mindedness with games "Whose Fault is It?" and "Yay or Nay?!" Beth's profound understanding of dogs, their needs, and what motivates them shines in her responses, always putting the well-being of the pet and his or her family first.

BIO:

Beth Wherry Acker received her Bachelors from George Mason University in 2011, majoring in Communications & Theatre. Having loved animals all her life, Beth always found ways to incorporate them in school projects, odd jobs, and volunteer work.

Up until September 2020, Beth was co-owner and Operations Manager of The Wag Pack, an in-home pet care company that served Northern Virginia for 12 years. The Wag Pack gave Beth hands-on experience in customer service, pet care, and dog-specific behavior challenges.

Beth became a Victoria Stilwell Certified Dog Trainer in 2017 and is set to graduate with her Karen Pryor Academy Certification in November of 2020. Both of these certification courses offered Beth the opportunity to learn about dog behavior in great depth, to challenge herself with advanced behavior cases, and work to become a trusted resource for new and experienced pet parents.

One of the things Beth is most proud of is being a foster for homeless puppies & dogs. She has been caring for dogs in need for over a decade and has worked with organizations like FOHA, Dogs XL, Lost Dog and Cat, and NOVA Pets Alive. She has especially enjoyed being Vice President of NPA since 2016 and helping the organization grow by co-managing the foster program and providing adopter support.

Beth currently lives on 7 beautiful acres in Loudoun County, Virginia with her husband, daughter, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and the more-than-occasional foster dog or cat.
