00:01:28.480 --> 00:01:30.100
Arden Moore: Welcome to the show, Melissa.

00:01:30.120 --> 00:01:32.060
Melissa Millet: Thank you so much for having us.

00:01:32.400 --> 00:01:35.660
Arden Moore: Hey, Bow Wow, we got so much to cover today.

00:01:35.940 --> 00:01:39.400
Arden Moore: We're going to first go to the dogs and later to your fine felines.

00:01:39.800 --> 00:01:42.600
Arden Moore: But I'm going to ask the pet pals out there this.

00:01:42.860 --> 00:01:49.560
Arden Moore: When you hear the name Stephen King, I'm betting a chill goes up and down your spine.

00:01:49.560 --> 00:01:51.880
Arden Moore: He is the king of scare.

00:01:52.440 --> 00:01:58.320
Arden Moore: Now, his book that he's had, Pet Sematary, is now turned into another movie.

00:01:58.340 --> 00:01:59.900
Arden Moore: I think it's a prequel.

00:01:59.920 --> 00:02:01.500
Arden Moore: You'll tell us a little bit more, Melissa.

00:02:01.940 --> 00:02:23.100
Arden Moore: Come on, you know that, Pet Sematary and Melissa's dog, I love the name, Jellybean, is transformed into a zombie dog and Jellybean's sharing the screen with some people we might know, you know, David Duchovny, Pam Greer, you know, Henry Thomas.

00:02:23.500 --> 00:02:25.200
Arden Moore: Wow, that's awesome.

00:02:25.620 --> 00:02:27.180
Arden Moore: So let's just dive in.

00:02:27.780 --> 00:02:32.100
Arden Moore: Melissa, Jellybean, you have a special name for him.

00:02:32.120 --> 00:02:33.580
Arden Moore: You call him the what of dogs?

00:02:34.680 --> 00:02:37.180
Melissa Millet: I call him the Brad Pitt of dogs.

00:02:37.660 --> 00:02:38.620
Arden Moore: And why is that?

00:02:38.900 --> 00:02:45.500
Melissa Millet: Well, some animals just have that special something that the entertainment business is attracted to.

00:02:45.800 --> 00:02:57.000
Melissa Millet: And I remember when I was casting animals for a commercial, one of my animals that I represent said, I feel like I'm always on my dog is always up for jobs against Jellybean.

00:02:57.380 --> 00:02:58.320
Melissa Millet: Maybe they're similar.

00:02:58.480 --> 00:03:04.260
Melissa Millet: I said, No, he's always chosen and shortlisted for everything.

00:03:04.280 --> 00:03:07.120
Melissa Millet: He just has that charisma that Brad Pitt must have.

00:03:07.260 --> 00:03:08.620
Arden Moore: But he's deaf.

00:03:09.260 --> 00:03:09.680
Melissa Millet: Yes.

00:03:10.340 --> 00:03:17.240
Arden Moore: So that might be now tell us the a little his backstory about how you and Jellybean got to be a team.

00:03:17.640 --> 00:03:21.280
Melissa Millet: I adopted Lollipop first by accident.

00:03:21.620 --> 00:03:23.380
Arden Moore: And he's a Boston Terrier, right?

00:03:23.620 --> 00:03:25.480
Melissa Millet: Yeah, Lollipop is a Boston Terrier.

00:03:25.680 --> 00:03:30.720
Melissa Millet: It's interesting, I grew up with an aunt in the home that was deaf.

00:03:30.820 --> 00:03:32.620
Melissa Millet: But there could be some attraction there.

00:03:32.640 --> 00:03:38.440
Melissa Millet: But I just discovered with Lollipop that deaf dogs are incredible and trainable.

00:03:38.900 --> 00:03:45.280
Melissa Millet: And so when I was looking specifically for a healer next, Jellybean came available and he also happened to be deaf.

00:03:45.400 --> 00:03:48.500
Melissa Millet: And I thought that's not really a problem I've discovered.

00:03:48.840 --> 00:03:50.200
Melissa Millet: So I had him.

00:03:50.820 --> 00:03:53.620
Melissa Millet: He was born to a very good breeder.

00:03:54.240 --> 00:03:59.460
Melissa Millet: And she couldn't find somebody to take him because people think that they're untrainable.

00:04:02.280 --> 00:04:06.380
Melissa Millet: She had to drive 10 hours each direction to find a rescue to take him.

00:04:06.940 --> 00:04:07.700
Arden Moore: Are you kidding?

00:04:07.720 --> 00:04:09.300
Arden Moore: Now, what is his breed?

00:04:09.320 --> 00:04:10.920
Arden Moore: I think I know, but I want to make sure.

00:04:11.160 --> 00:04:12.200
Melissa Millet: He's a red healer.

00:04:12.920 --> 00:04:13.320
Arden Moore: All right.

00:04:13.340 --> 00:04:16.600
Arden Moore: So 10 hours one way, 10 hours back to a rescue.

00:04:16.700 --> 00:04:21.680
Arden Moore: Then how did you and the rescue get together to be able to have you adopt Jellybean?

00:04:22.160 --> 00:04:25.200
Melissa Millet: I saw him posted on Facebook with a description.

00:04:25.720 --> 00:04:34.600
Melissa Millet: And it was what I was looking for, like friendly with people, confident in new environments, brilliant, also happen to be deaf.

00:04:34.640 --> 00:04:40.080
Melissa Millet: But they did admit he was one of the most intense cattle dogs that they had seen in rescue.

00:04:40.340 --> 00:04:44.420
Arden Moore: And if anybody knows cattle dogs, we're going here now, then we're going here now.

00:04:44.440 --> 00:04:45.220
Arden Moore: We're going to go here.

00:04:45.420 --> 00:04:46.740
Melissa Millet: That's pretty intense.

00:04:47.200 --> 00:04:48.340
Arden Moore: Is he anywhere around?

00:04:48.360 --> 00:04:49.100
Arden Moore: We can say hi to him.

00:04:49.340 --> 00:04:50.020
Melissa Millet: Yeah, he was.

00:04:50.740 --> 00:04:52.660
Melissa Millet: I'm just waving him over because he's deaf.

00:04:54.060 --> 00:04:56.840
Arden Moore: Yeah, if you started calling his name, I would be laughing.

00:04:57.260 --> 00:04:59.220
Arden Moore: Hello there, Jellybean.

00:04:59.240 --> 00:05:00.380
Arden Moore: Just want to say hi to you.

00:05:00.680 --> 00:05:01.400
Arden Moore: So Mr.

00:05:01.420 --> 00:05:02.840
Arden Moore: Brad Pitt of the Woof World.

00:05:06.900 --> 00:05:10.320
Arden Moore: How did he land the role in the new Pet Sematary?

00:05:10.340 --> 00:05:14.620
Arden Moore: Tell us when it's airing and what's his character's name if he has one.

00:05:14.840 --> 00:05:18.940
Melissa Millet: Oh, and also I would ask that dog in the background to stop barking, but she's deaf.

00:05:19.260 --> 00:05:21.680
Melissa Millet: I have a new puppy that's deaf, so I now have three.

00:05:22.280 --> 00:05:23.120
Melissa Millet: So Jellybean.

00:05:23.200 --> 00:05:29.580
Melissa Millet: So actually I worked on the Pet Sematary remake, the 2019 as well, with the cats.

00:05:29.620 --> 00:05:33.460
Melissa Millet: So Tonic, that was just sitting beside me, played church.

00:05:34.180 --> 00:05:39.800
Melissa Millet: And when I shoot a movie, I bring all of my animals because I love them, and I don't want to be separated from them.

00:05:39.820 --> 00:05:44.260
Melissa Millet: So I say, hey, if you want to hire me, I'm showing up with 10 dogs total.

00:05:46.020 --> 00:05:57.760
Melissa Millet: Got a chance to meet Jellybean, and Jellybean played a scene as Biffer in the first, but they didn't find that it fit, so they didn't use that scene.

00:05:57.880 --> 00:05:59.020
Melissa Millet: There's a photo of him.

00:05:59.300 --> 00:06:02.500
Melissa Millet: So when they didn't use that scene, they still thought it was a great scene.

00:06:02.860 --> 00:06:10.620
Melissa Millet: So when they came back to shoot the prequel, the same producer knew that he wanted Jellybean to play Hendrix.

00:06:12.280 --> 00:06:14.320
Arden Moore: And Hendrix is a zombie dog, right?

00:06:14.460 --> 00:06:15.420
Melissa Millet: Yes.

00:06:15.920 --> 00:06:18.960
Arden Moore: I've seen some little promo clips for the Pet Sematary.

00:06:19.000 --> 00:06:22.180
Arden Moore: I understand it was released in October, correct?

00:06:22.320 --> 00:06:22.840
Arden Moore: The movies?

00:06:23.120 --> 00:06:23.420
Melissa Millet: Yes.

00:06:24.120 --> 00:06:26.820
Arden Moore: So he doesn't look as dapper as he does now.

00:06:26.820 --> 00:06:30.280
Arden Moore: Tell us what Hollywood did to your dog to make him a zombie dog.

00:06:31.840 --> 00:06:40.260
Melissa Millet: I hired somebody who specializes in special effects, and he worked with the Dobermans from Resident Evil.

00:06:40.280 --> 00:06:52.460
Melissa Millet: He came in and he showed us coloration, because we're responsible for coloring the animals, because I want to make sure that they don't get stressed with the process, so I'm controlling over that to make...

00:06:52.480 --> 00:06:58.320
Melissa Millet: Not that anybody would want to stress the animals, but they're my animals and I can train for it.

00:06:58.980 --> 00:07:04.440
Melissa Millet: So I had a meeting with him on what coloration should look like, and we submit videos.

00:07:04.680 --> 00:07:10.380
Melissa Millet: We use mud, egg whites and chalk to make them look more rugged.

00:07:10.400 --> 00:07:12.540
Melissa Millet: But you know, a cattle dog doesn't have far to go.

00:07:12.560 --> 00:07:14.240
Melissa Millet: You know, they're pretty rugged looking as is.

00:07:14.260 --> 00:07:15.940
Melissa Millet: They're a great fit for zombies.

00:07:16.560 --> 00:07:21.260
Arden Moore: So because he's deaf, that actually was a benefit.

00:07:21.280 --> 00:07:22.020
Arden Moore: Tell us why.

00:07:22.280 --> 00:07:26.460
Arden Moore: Because I'm assuming there's a lot of noise going around on a movie set.

00:07:26.820 --> 00:07:35.540
Arden Moore: How were you able to channel Jellybean to be Hendrix and be that spooky zombie but following his cue, your cues?

00:07:35.840 --> 00:07:38.000
Melissa Millet: We had to do a lot of interesting camera angles.

00:07:38.440 --> 00:07:47.740
Melissa Millet: But in one of the scenes, you see that the characters, the actors come out of the car and they're supposed to call him and he's not supposed to respond.

00:07:48.160 --> 00:07:48.940
Arden Moore: Oh, okay.

00:07:48.960 --> 00:07:55.980
Melissa Millet: That was a little easier than it would be if we were training a dog to not respond or look to the calls.

00:07:56.300 --> 00:07:56.660
Arden Moore: Perfect.

00:07:56.680 --> 00:08:04.920
Melissa Millet: And then I had all sorts of training tricks and camera angle tricks to make sure that that he was performing the behavior correctly.

00:08:04.940 --> 00:08:15.340
Melissa Millet: And there's a scene where he's creeping, walking slowly and creepy down the driveway and they actually paint me out of the shot.

00:08:16.680 --> 00:08:17.460
Arden Moore: Oh, cool.

00:08:17.880 --> 00:08:22.600
Arden Moore: So is he like being a low crawl kind of a soldier move or what was his move?

00:08:23.060 --> 00:08:26.380
Melissa Millet: You know, the stock of the herding dog when they're close to the livestock.

00:08:27.340 --> 00:08:37.260
Melissa Millet: Yeah, I trained for the stock, but the challenging piece is that that's something that they'll do generally close up and it's more of a border collie thing than a cattle dog.

00:08:37.280 --> 00:08:39.560
Melissa Millet: You know, these guys, they do come in and bite.

00:08:39.580 --> 00:08:43.600
Melissa Millet: They will stop, but I had to get the stock 15, 20 feet away.

00:08:43.760 --> 00:08:44.760
Melissa Millet: Very long time.

00:08:45.040 --> 00:08:49.040
Arden Moore: Now, are you disappointed that you got erased from Pet Sematary?

00:08:50.320 --> 00:08:51.020
Melissa Millet: Well, that's it.

00:08:51.040 --> 00:08:54.260
Melissa Millet: Just makes it less fun to watch the movie with me because I'm like, I'm right there.

00:08:54.540 --> 00:08:55.820
Melissa Millet: I'm hiding behind the tree.

00:08:55.960 --> 00:08:56.920
Melissa Millet: I'm under his feet.

00:08:56.940 --> 00:08:59.540
Melissa Millet: And my daughter says, are you going to do this again?

00:08:59.560 --> 00:09:02.580
Arden Moore: Hey, everyone, we're speaking with Melissa Millet.

00:09:02.980 --> 00:09:05.280
Arden Moore: She's an amazing animal trainer.

00:09:05.300 --> 00:09:11.460
Arden Moore: We actually have a connection we're going to talk about after the break, but we want you to check out the movie Pet Sematary.

00:09:11.680 --> 00:09:20.220
Arden Moore: But we're going to talk about her other dog, Lollipop, and the fact that they're both Lollipop and Jellybean are Guinness World Record holders.

00:09:20.700 --> 00:09:22.060
Arden Moore: So you all know the drill.

00:09:22.380 --> 00:09:23.620
Arden Moore: Sit, stay.

00:09:23.740 --> 00:09:24.580
Arden Moore: We'll be right back.

00:10:45.740 --> 00:10:47.260
Arden Moore: Her name is Melissa Millet.

00:10:47.300 --> 00:10:48.020
Arden Moore: Check her out.

00:10:48.040 --> 00:10:51.160
Arden Moore: She's at Ultimutts and Hollywoof Stars.

00:10:51.660 --> 00:10:55.040
Arden Moore: And we were talking about Jellybean doing pretty well in the movie.

00:10:55.060 --> 00:10:56.840
Arden Moore: I mean, how did he relate?

00:10:57.040 --> 00:11:01.160
Arden Moore: Who got the bigger trailer, David Duchovny or Jellybean?

00:11:01.400 --> 00:11:06.980
Melissa Millet: Jellybean got the bigger trailer because he had to bring nine brothers and sisters.

00:11:07.260 --> 00:11:08.760
Melissa Millet: Oh, he's quite a diva.

00:11:08.780 --> 00:11:10.020
Melissa Millet: He brought an entourage.

00:11:10.540 --> 00:11:12.580
Melissa Millet: I do travel with the animals in a trailer.

00:11:12.820 --> 00:11:19.880
Melissa Millet: When they work long days, I make it part of our negotiation because I don't want them to just sit in a kennel all day waiting to work.

00:11:20.100 --> 00:11:23.460
Melissa Millet: And I don't want them out on set becoming overwhelmed.

00:11:23.700 --> 00:11:30.560
Melissa Millet: So I bring a motor home so that he can be as if he's in his own home or living room, rest and then come out ready to work.

00:11:31.000 --> 00:11:31.440
Arden Moore: I like it.

00:11:31.460 --> 00:11:33.860
Arden Moore: But now we all know he had a bigger one than David Duchovny.

00:11:34.160 --> 00:11:34.820
Melissa Millet: He spoiled.

00:11:35.240 --> 00:11:36.120
Arden Moore: Yeah, he spoiled.

00:11:36.620 --> 00:11:38.300
Arden Moore: So how was the cast with him?

00:11:38.480 --> 00:11:42.360
Arden Moore: You also have, you know, Pam Greer, I love her and Henry Thomas.

00:11:43.200 --> 00:11:44.980
Melissa Millet: Pam Greer was hands down the coolest.

00:11:45.000 --> 00:11:45.840
Melissa Millet: She was so cool.

00:11:45.960 --> 00:11:48.200
Melissa Millet: Such an animal lover, such a cool lady.

00:11:48.860 --> 00:11:51.540
Melissa Millet: And she was just phenomenal to work with.

00:11:51.560 --> 00:11:53.900
Melissa Millet: And I wanted more out of him.

00:11:54.140 --> 00:11:54.960
Melissa Millet: I looked at the scene.

00:11:54.980 --> 00:11:55.700
Melissa Millet: It was amazing.

00:11:56.040 --> 00:11:57.900
Melissa Millet: But I know what I can train at home.

00:11:57.920 --> 00:12:05.840
Melissa Millet: And I didn't feel that he had performed at the time how I thought he could until I watched the movie.

00:12:05.860 --> 00:12:07.220
Melissa Millet: And I was like, wow, that's amazing.

00:12:07.580 --> 00:12:10.260
Melissa Millet: But I thought, oh, wow, that's the best scene.

00:12:10.700 --> 00:12:12.660
Melissa Millet: But Pam was really supportive.

00:12:12.680 --> 00:12:14.260
Melissa Millet: She was like, no, it looks amazing.

00:12:14.580 --> 00:12:15.440
Melissa Millet: I'm a dog lover.

00:12:15.460 --> 00:12:16.600
Melissa Millet: You tell me what you need.

00:12:17.020 --> 00:12:18.600
Melissa Millet: And David was really cool as well.

00:12:19.140 --> 00:12:21.360
Melissa Millet: But he had a scene with David that was cut.

00:12:21.880 --> 00:12:29.580
Arden Moore: You said there was a part in the movie that got clipped out with a scene with David Duchovny's character and Jellybean.

00:12:29.600 --> 00:12:30.340
Arden Moore: Tell us about that.

00:12:30.740 --> 00:12:34.940
Melissa Millet: So originally, Jellybean didn't start out as the zombie dog.

00:12:35.040 --> 00:12:42.680
Melissa Millet: He started out as a regular dog, but they sometimes change things as they watch it later and say, you know, that doesn't make sense.

00:12:42.920 --> 00:12:44.560
Melissa Millet: And I agree with the changes.

00:12:45.060 --> 00:12:49.920
Melissa Millet: So he came out where Judd and Bill Baterman met in the town.

00:12:49.980 --> 00:12:52.000
Melissa Millet: David Duchovny plays Bill Baterman.

00:12:52.360 --> 00:12:56.640
Melissa Millet: So he was belonging to Bill Baterman, and he came out and met in the town.

00:12:57.180 --> 00:12:59.320
Melissa Millet: And I was sad they cut.

00:12:59.340 --> 00:13:03.000
Melissa Millet: I always want more time to see the dollars, even if it didn't fully make sense.

00:13:03.320 --> 00:13:10.340
Melissa Millet: Did you know that Jackson White that played Judd is the daughter of Married with Children?

00:13:11.120 --> 00:13:12.880
Arden Moore: Oh, Kathy Sagal or whatever.

00:13:13.180 --> 00:13:13.620
Arden Moore: Really?

00:13:13.640 --> 00:13:15.440
Arden Moore: There's a small world, isn't it?

00:13:15.560 --> 00:13:15.960
Arden Moore: Isn't it?

00:13:16.240 --> 00:13:16.880
Melissa Millet: He was great.

00:13:17.520 --> 00:13:18.180
Arden Moore: Moving on.

00:13:18.300 --> 00:13:20.900
Arden Moore: So what about Lollipop?

00:13:20.920 --> 00:13:22.440
Arden Moore: Your Boston Terrier.

00:13:22.520 --> 00:13:23.520
Arden Moore: Where's Lollipop?

00:13:23.540 --> 00:13:25.000
Arden Moore: Is Lollipop anywhere around?

00:13:25.280 --> 00:13:27.500
Melissa Millet: See, she's having a sleep and I have to wave them over.

00:13:27.720 --> 00:13:32.040
Melissa Millet: So Lollipop is my, she's giving me the, she's sniffing me.

00:13:32.060 --> 00:13:32.960
Melissa Millet: She says, I'm napping.

00:13:33.520 --> 00:13:36.140
Melissa Millet: Lollipop is my doggy diva.

00:13:37.000 --> 00:13:37.860
Melissa Millet: She's like, excuse me.

00:13:37.880 --> 00:13:40.700
Melissa Millet: I'm comfortable when a deaf dog doesn't want to respond.

00:13:40.720 --> 00:13:41.460
Melissa Millet: I don't know if you know this.

00:13:41.480 --> 00:13:44.340
Melissa Millet: They simply just look away and pretend they didn't see you.

00:13:44.860 --> 00:13:49.000
Melissa Millet: And it's really funny to just see your dog sitting there, looking away, ignoring you.

00:13:49.200 --> 00:13:51.800
Arden Moore: Anyway, talk to the paw because I really can't listen.

00:13:51.820 --> 00:13:54.400
Melissa Millet: I didn't see you.

00:13:54.420 --> 00:13:55.180
Melissa Millet: It's not my fault.

00:13:55.620 --> 00:13:58.900
Melissa Millet: Lollipop is everything that everybody would want in a dog.

00:13:58.920 --> 00:14:04.220
Melissa Millet: She's just gentle and sweet, and she constantly tries to do the right thing.

00:14:04.240 --> 00:14:06.840
Melissa Millet: And she was my first deaf dog eight years old.

00:14:07.400 --> 00:14:09.560
Arden Moore: And how did you come to get together?

00:14:09.780 --> 00:14:15.600
Melissa Millet: Actually, I ended up getting in a car accident, and I lost a Boston Terrier in the car accident.

00:14:15.620 --> 00:14:16.300
Melissa Millet: It's very sad.

00:14:16.740 --> 00:14:24.260
Melissa Millet: And her breeder, knowing that she was a breeder and loving the Boston Terrier breed, somebody said, This little Boston Terrier is deaf.

00:14:24.820 --> 00:14:25.760
Melissa Millet: She couldn't sell.

00:14:26.000 --> 00:14:28.040
Melissa Millet: And she's been given to the county pound.

00:14:28.360 --> 00:14:31.900
Melissa Millet: And she said, I know somebody that would like this dog.

00:14:32.260 --> 00:14:33.700
Melissa Millet: She asked me if I wanted her.

00:14:33.720 --> 00:14:36.300
Melissa Millet: And I said, I had already gotten another puppy.

00:14:36.300 --> 00:14:37.940
Melissa Millet: This was only about six weeks later.

00:14:37.960 --> 00:14:41.740
Melissa Millet: But you know, when you're in love and you...

00:14:41.760 --> 00:14:46.020
Melissa Millet: But I saw a dog that I wanted, and I said, I just got a puppy.

00:14:46.200 --> 00:14:47.220
Melissa Millet: But bring her to me.

00:14:47.220 --> 00:14:48.240
Melissa Millet: I can foster her.

00:14:48.320 --> 00:14:48.860
Melissa Millet: I'd love to.

00:14:49.440 --> 00:14:52.740
Melissa Millet: And I can find somebody to adopt her.

00:14:53.000 --> 00:14:53.820
Melissa Millet: She brought her to me.

00:14:54.120 --> 00:14:55.040
Melissa Millet: I laid eyes on her.

00:14:55.460 --> 00:14:56.880
Melissa Millet: And I said, that's my dog.

00:14:56.900 --> 00:14:58.620
Melissa Millet: There's no way that dog's not going anywhere.

00:14:58.740 --> 00:15:01.460
Arden Moore: So I guess you're not my doggoness, right?

00:15:01.480 --> 00:15:03.220
Melissa Millet: Yes.

00:15:03.680 --> 00:15:04.940
Arden Moore: You can have more than one.

00:15:05.680 --> 00:15:09.780
Arden Moore: So I understand that Lollipop and you were on America's Got Talent.

00:15:09.980 --> 00:15:10.360
Melissa Millet: Yes.

00:15:10.740 --> 00:15:11.640
Arden Moore: You did pretty well.

00:15:11.760 --> 00:15:12.100
Melissa Millet: Yeah.

00:15:12.520 --> 00:15:16.500
Melissa Millet: With my Bengal Cat sashimi, we did get four yeses.

00:15:16.740 --> 00:15:22.680
Melissa Millet: They only aired pieces of our edition, but they were phenomenal, a phenomenal team.

00:15:22.700 --> 00:15:24.600
Arden Moore: And we need to brag a little bit.

00:15:25.160 --> 00:15:29.480
Arden Moore: You've got some dogs and cats that are in the Guinness World Records.

00:15:29.760 --> 00:15:31.020
Arden Moore: And I have to share this.

00:15:31.040 --> 00:15:34.340
Arden Moore: Do you know I had a dog that's in the Guinness World Record?

00:15:34.620 --> 00:15:39.760
Arden Moore: One of my little dogs, Cleo, was an original member of the SoCal Surf Dogs.

00:15:40.280 --> 00:15:51.460
Arden Moore: And about 11 years ago, we got a modified surfboard, and we got a bunch of dogs on that board with a surfer in the witnessing of the Guinness people in San Diego.

00:15:51.740 --> 00:15:54.240
Arden Moore: And whoever dogs finished made it.

00:15:54.660 --> 00:15:58.540
Arden Moore: So we had a boxer, we had a golden retriever, we had all these dogs.

00:15:58.760 --> 00:16:03.240
Arden Moore: And my little terrier mix, Cleo, surfed all the way to shore with all the pack.

00:16:03.260 --> 00:16:09.300
Arden Moore: There were 17 dogs that made it, and we raised $72,000 for the San Diego Humane Society.

00:16:09.600 --> 00:16:13.160
Arden Moore: So that's my only, we have records together, what do you think?

00:16:13.320 --> 00:16:16.580
Melissa Millet: Wow, $72,000, that's incredible.

00:16:16.940 --> 00:16:20.940
Arden Moore: But I have her surfboard now mounted above my backyard office.

00:16:20.960 --> 00:16:23.620
Arden Moore: So I always salute Cleo every time I go to work.

00:16:23.980 --> 00:16:27.720
Arden Moore: But tell us about, you got five records, is that right?

00:16:27.720 --> 00:16:28.860
Melissa Millet: Yeah, five records.

00:16:29.040 --> 00:16:29.640
Arden Moore: Let's do it.

00:16:29.760 --> 00:16:31.880
Arden Moore: Let's go run down, boom, boom, boom.

00:16:32.160 --> 00:16:35.520
Melissa Millet: First, Guinness reached out to me and said, we love your work.

00:16:35.540 --> 00:16:38.620
Melissa Millet: I want to see what would you submit for a record?

00:16:38.760 --> 00:16:40.820
Melissa Millet: You know, if you're going to submit directly to us.

00:16:41.540 --> 00:16:45.500
Melissa Millet: And I thought about some really cool, unique submissions.

00:16:45.500 --> 00:16:50.000
Melissa Millet: I looked at my dogs, I have 10 dogs, and my deaf dogs had the strongest tricks.

00:16:50.580 --> 00:16:51.720
Arden Moore: Oh my gosh, really?

00:16:52.780 --> 00:16:55.100
Melissa Millet: You know, it wasn't that they were a novelty act.

00:16:55.120 --> 00:16:57.360
Melissa Millet: It was just, you know, it's exciting to have a record.

00:16:57.380 --> 00:16:58.740
Melissa Millet: I'm going to submit my best stuff.

00:16:58.960 --> 00:17:00.440
Melissa Millet: And it just happened to be my deaf dogs.

00:17:01.040 --> 00:17:08.800
Melissa Millet: My first three records were bounce passes of a basketball with my red healer, where we bounced it back and forth as if we're dribbling to each other.

00:17:08.820 --> 00:17:09.200
Arden Moore: Let's do it.

00:17:09.220 --> 00:17:09.460
Arden Moore: Ready?

00:17:09.480 --> 00:17:10.420
Arden Moore: You bounce, I'll catch.

00:17:10.440 --> 00:17:11.140
Arden Moore: Go ahead.

00:17:11.360 --> 00:17:13.340
Melissa Millet: Yeah, bounce, catch.

00:17:14.660 --> 00:17:15.380
Melissa Millet: Really cool.

00:17:16.140 --> 00:17:21.020
Melissa Millet: The second was the fastest five-meter pushing of a ball under his paws.

00:17:22.920 --> 00:17:33.380
Melissa Millet: And then the last was my favorite trick of all time, the Bengal Cat and the Boston Terrier riding a scooter together, the fastest five meters on a scooter.

00:17:33.940 --> 00:17:36.280
Arden Moore: So that is lollipop and sashimi, right?

00:17:36.300 --> 00:17:36.300
<v SPEAKER_1>Right.

00:17:36.440 --> 00:17:37.580
Melissa Millet: Lollipop and sashimi.

00:17:37.960 --> 00:17:38.380
Arden Moore: Okay.

00:17:38.400 --> 00:17:39.540
Arden Moore: What's the other two records?

00:17:40.120 --> 00:17:50.140
Melissa Millet: After those records were submitted, I was contacted by the Guinness World Record Show in Italy, which is Lo Show De Record, or however you pronounce it with an accent.

00:17:50.520 --> 00:17:53.140
Melissa Millet: And I was asked if I would travel with the animals to Italy.

00:17:53.960 --> 00:17:58.380
Melissa Millet: And so I took lollipop and sashimi because they fit under my seat.

00:17:59.600 --> 00:18:09.040
Melissa Millet: And we acquired the fastest 10 meter on a scooter and live in the studio audience, which was incredible.

00:18:09.060 --> 00:18:10.700
Melissa Millet: It looks sort of like America's Got Talent.

00:18:10.720 --> 00:18:13.660
Melissa Millet: It's a massive lead wall, all screen.

00:18:13.880 --> 00:18:16.280
Melissa Millet: It's an amazing for a cat to travel to Italy.

00:18:16.720 --> 00:18:24.520
Melissa Millet: And lollipop acquired the most distance accumulated in one minute on a 16 foot tight rope.

00:18:25.660 --> 00:18:27.180
Arden Moore: That is whack.

00:18:27.880 --> 00:18:31.560
Arden Moore: Hey, we're going to dive in a little bit deeper, but we're going to take a quick break.

00:18:31.640 --> 00:18:32.920
Arden Moore: So sit and stay.

00:18:33.060 --> 00:18:33.980
Arden Moore: We'll be right back.

00:18:37.460 --> 00:18:40.340
Announcer: Time for a walk on the red carpet, of course.

00:18:40.700 --> 00:18:44.640
Announcer: Oh Behave will be back in a flash right after these messages.

00:19:57.620 --> 00:19:58.900
Announcer:>We're back from the lot.

00:19:59.000 --> 00:20:01.820
Announcer:Just check the paper and we had our record showing at the box.

00:20:02.040 --> 00:20:03.500
Announcer:The litter box that is.

00:20:03.660 --> 00:20:05.500
Announcer:Now back to Oh Behave.

00:20:05.620 --> 00:20:06.320
Announcer:Here's Arden.

00:20:06.980 --> 00:20:09.760
Arden Moore: Welcome back to the Oh Behave Show on PetLife Radio.

00:20:09.840 --> 00:20:11.380
Arden Moore: I'm your host, Arden Moore.

00:20:11.580 --> 00:20:14.540
Arden Moore: Hey, you know, our special guest today is Melissa Millet.

00:20:14.580 --> 00:20:19.160
Arden Moore: She's the founder and head trainer at The Ultimutts and Hollywoof Stars.

00:20:19.900 --> 00:20:23.820
Arden Moore: And we've talked about your dogs knowing their cues in front of a camera.

00:20:24.200 --> 00:20:27.540
Arden Moore: I want to really spotlight your pair of talented cats.

00:20:27.940 --> 00:20:36.520
Arden Moore: I know people think you can't train a cat, but you've got a couple of fine felines who hit their marks in movies, television, commercials.

00:20:37.080 --> 00:20:41.700
Arden Moore: And I am talking about the purring pair of Shashimi and Tonic.

00:20:42.360 --> 00:20:47.720
Arden Moore: So glad we can keep going, because I love that you are proving people a little bit.

00:20:47.740 --> 00:20:49.060
Arden Moore: You're giving the record straight.

00:20:49.080 --> 00:20:50.440
Arden Moore: You can train deaf dogs.

00:20:50.680 --> 00:20:53.660
Arden Moore: You can train cats and you find world peace.

00:20:57.820 --> 00:20:59.080
Melissa Millet: Cats and dogs together.

00:20:59.100 --> 00:21:00.080
Melissa Millet: It's pretty close.

00:21:00.300 --> 00:21:00.640
Arden Moore: Yeah.

00:21:00.660 --> 00:21:01.000
Arden Moore: Yeah.

00:21:01.300 --> 00:21:04.940
Arden Moore: So I mean, what is your message to people?

00:21:05.080 --> 00:21:06.620
Arden Moore: You helped me years ago.

00:21:06.640 --> 00:21:07.380
Arden Moore: Let's talk about it.

00:21:07.400 --> 00:21:08.420
Arden Moore: We have another connection.

00:21:08.840 --> 00:21:19.920
Arden Moore: My orange tabby, Casey, best known now as Pet Safety Cat Casey, is a certified therapy cat and he, I will argue, is the busiest safety cat in the world.

00:21:20.760 --> 00:21:27.220
Arden Moore: I teach Pet First Aid for you with my Terrier Mix Kona and Casey on Zoom, in person.

00:21:27.760 --> 00:21:32.260
Arden Moore: And Casey has never met a strange place or a strange person.

00:21:32.640 --> 00:21:34.160
Arden Moore: So bring us back.

00:21:34.180 --> 00:21:38.380
Arden Moore: You were just meeting him when he was getting his start and you actually helped him.

00:21:38.380 --> 00:21:39.920
Arden Moore: Do you remember what you trained him to do?

00:21:40.120 --> 00:21:42.860
Melissa Millet: I remember that was my first in-person cat class.

00:21:43.540 --> 00:21:46.240
Melissa Millet: And I was thinking, what the heck was I thinking?

00:21:46.260 --> 00:21:47.800
Melissa Millet: We got to have a whole bunch of cats.

00:21:47.820 --> 00:21:48.940
Melissa Millet: Are they going to get along?

00:21:49.180 --> 00:21:50.720
Melissa Millet: And they did amazing.

00:21:51.180 --> 00:21:53.780
Melissa Millet: And Casey, what behavior did he?

00:21:54.140 --> 00:21:56.400
Arden Moore: He was doing the, I think you did the paw touching.

00:21:56.420 --> 00:21:56.680
Arden Moore: Yeah.

00:21:57.060 --> 00:21:57.860
Melissa Millet: That's right.

00:21:57.860 --> 00:21:58.480
Melissa Millet: The high five.

00:21:58.480 --> 00:21:59.440
Melissa Millet: Was it the high five?

00:21:59.660 --> 00:22:00.940
Arden Moore: And he's a lefty like me.

00:22:03.140 --> 00:22:05.420
Arden Moore: Does that make him a south paw?

00:22:05.760 --> 00:22:06.220
Melissa Millet: Yes.

00:22:06.360 --> 00:22:06.760
Melissa Millet: Yes.

00:22:07.140 --> 00:22:09.640
Arden Moore: But I don't know if you remember him, but he's not shy.

00:22:09.900 --> 00:22:10.200
Melissa Millet: Yeah.

00:22:10.320 --> 00:22:11.160
Melissa Millet: He was tail high.

00:22:11.240 --> 00:22:21.320
Melissa Millet: Absolutely super confident in a dog event center with, there was, there was dogs present and other cats present, which is almost the most impressive.

00:22:21.600 --> 00:22:22.260
Arden Moore: That's cool.

00:22:22.460 --> 00:22:26.860
Arden Moore: So tell us about Shashimi and Tonic and what kind of cats they are.

00:22:27.140 --> 00:22:29.840
Arden Moore: What's some things people might be amazed that they can do?

00:22:30.160 --> 00:22:32.940
Arden Moore: And they're in front of a camera and they're like, I love it.

00:22:33.020 --> 00:22:34.300
Melissa Millet: Shashimi is my first.

00:22:34.420 --> 00:22:35.560
Melissa Millet: She's just incredible.

00:22:35.740 --> 00:22:39.940
Melissa Millet: I mean, even going back to this trip to Italy, she is an adventure cat.

00:22:40.260 --> 00:22:42.300
Melissa Millet: You know, she was excited to be there.

00:22:42.320 --> 00:22:46.640
Melissa Millet: She was waiting at the door of the green room, ready to go sleeping, watching me.

00:22:46.880 --> 00:22:48.040
Melissa Millet: When is she going to wake up?

00:22:48.060 --> 00:22:48.820
Melissa Millet: I want more.

00:22:49.040 --> 00:22:49.760
Melissa Millet: Unbelievable.

00:22:50.060 --> 00:22:58.860
Melissa Millet: And so she's actually mostly my trick cat, but she's coming out in a new series on AMC called Orphan Black Echoes.

00:22:58.880 --> 00:23:02.040
Melissa Millet: She's got a short role, Jennifer.

00:23:02.700 --> 00:23:03.720
Melissa Millet: So that's really cool.

00:23:03.740 --> 00:23:09.140
Melissa Millet: She had the time of her life and there's a bit of intense conversation which didn't bother her in the slightest.

00:23:09.280 --> 00:23:10.560
Arden Moore: Well, what's this orphan?

00:23:10.840 --> 00:23:11.920
Arden Moore: What is it called orphan?

00:23:12.340 --> 00:23:13.600
Melissa Millet: Orphan Black Echoes.

00:23:13.920 --> 00:23:14.920
Arden Moore: And what's that all about?

00:23:15.100 --> 00:23:22.100
Melissa Millet: They actually, it's a spinoff series because there was an original series called Orphan Black and it's about clones.

00:23:22.360 --> 00:23:25.880
Melissa Millet: And in this one, it's taking place in 2025.

00:23:26.340 --> 00:23:27.600
Melissa Millet: Okay, that's pretty cool.

00:23:28.200 --> 00:23:30.200
Arden Moore: And what's Shashimi's role?

00:23:30.240 --> 00:23:31.480
Arden Moore: What does she have to do?

00:23:31.920 --> 00:23:35.240
Melissa Millet: She's got a very short role in that as Jennifer.

00:23:35.260 --> 00:23:40.100
Melissa Millet: So she's just sitting there looking amazing.

00:23:40.120 --> 00:23:41.280
Melissa Millet: Somebody's pet cat.

00:23:41.720 --> 00:23:48.680
Melissa Millet: Jellybean, of course, has a huge role in that because, you know, he's got his own whole episode where he's a main character because he's the Brad Pitt of Dogs.

00:23:48.960 --> 00:23:49.620
Arden Moore: Oh, that's right.

00:23:49.680 --> 00:23:50.020
Arden Moore: Okay.

00:23:50.040 --> 00:23:50.860
Arden Moore: So he's in it too.

00:23:50.920 --> 00:23:51.540
Arden Moore: Okay, cool.

00:23:51.740 --> 00:23:52.940
Arden Moore: All right.

00:23:53.500 --> 00:23:54.840
Arden Moore: We'll keep it all in the family.

00:23:55.040 --> 00:23:56.420
Arden Moore: But what about Tonic?

00:23:56.480 --> 00:23:58.240
Arden Moore: What's Tonic's claim to fame?

00:23:58.580 --> 00:24:00.340
Melissa Millet: Tonic, he's more of an actor.

00:24:00.360 --> 00:24:01.900
Melissa Millet: So well, Sashimi is my trick cat.

00:24:02.300 --> 00:24:03.760
Melissa Millet: Tonic is my actor.

00:24:03.780 --> 00:24:06.860
Melissa Millet: He tells, he knows he's going to get paid more.

00:24:07.200 --> 00:24:13.220
Melissa Millet: Although he has gone viral, you know, with about 6 million views on TikTok and Instagram.

00:24:13.240 --> 00:24:14.760
Melissa Millet: Look, Sashimi is sitting on my lap now.

00:24:14.780 --> 00:24:16.000
Melissa Millet: She knows we're talking cats.

00:24:16.220 --> 00:24:16.580
Arden Moore: Yeah.

00:24:17.000 --> 00:24:20.620
Melissa Millet: Tonic is one of the main pet cemetery cats.

00:24:20.640 --> 00:24:22.420
Melissa Millet: He's the good cat, not the evil.

00:24:22.720 --> 00:24:27.940
Melissa Millet: He's a backup for the evil when you can see the back of his head, but he loves to work too much.

00:24:27.960 --> 00:24:29.680
Melissa Millet: He just looks so joyful.

00:24:30.000 --> 00:24:31.280
Arden Moore: What kind of things can he do?

00:24:31.400 --> 00:24:32.760
Arden Moore: Tell us what specific things.

00:24:33.240 --> 00:24:34.740
Melissa Millet: Well, one more interesting thing.

00:24:35.220 --> 00:24:37.300
Melissa Millet: Tonic's also coming out in theaters.

00:24:37.760 --> 00:24:39.600
Melissa Millet: It's a horror slasher.

00:24:40.000 --> 00:24:42.560
Melissa Millet: And Tonic is in a heavy scene.

00:24:42.580 --> 00:24:45.480
Melissa Millet: He worked on and off for 10 hours that day without quitting.

00:24:47.340 --> 00:24:48.460
Melissa Millet: He had a blast.

00:24:48.480 --> 00:24:49.980
Melissa Millet: And I haven't seen the movie.

00:24:50.000 --> 00:24:55.960
Melissa Millet: I get to see it on the screening on Wednesday, but the somebody from the film called me and said, Hey, what's the cat's name?

00:24:55.980 --> 00:24:57.200
Melissa Millet: We didn't get the cat's name.

00:24:57.220 --> 00:25:01.160
Melissa Millet: We want to add his name to the credits because it was such a small role.

00:25:01.440 --> 00:25:04.880
Melissa Millet: But when they screen the film, people are like this cat.

00:25:04.920 --> 00:25:07.860
Melissa Millet: Apparently people really connected and thought it was hilarious.

00:25:07.880 --> 00:25:11.220
Melissa Millet: So they wanted to add his name to the credits, which I thought was hilarious.

00:25:11.720 --> 00:25:14.800
Arden Moore: Years ago, there was a movie called Breakfast at Tiffany's.

00:25:15.000 --> 00:25:15.400
Melissa Millet: Yes.

00:25:15.720 --> 00:25:18.620
Arden Moore: And the cat's character was named cat.

00:25:20.280 --> 00:25:24.280
Arden Moore: And the cat became very famous and I don't know his given name.

00:25:24.740 --> 00:25:29.720
Arden Moore: But I'm just saying Tonic is kind of the 21st century of Breakfast at Tiffany's.

00:25:29.720 --> 00:25:30.720
Arden Moore: I'm sorry, Shishimi.

00:25:30.740 --> 00:25:32.620
Arden Moore: I don't mean to insult you, both of you.

00:25:33.020 --> 00:25:36.840
Arden Moore: What can you say to people to show that you can train a cat?

00:25:36.860 --> 00:25:38.900
Arden Moore: I always say you just kind of make it their idea.

00:25:39.280 --> 00:25:41.540
Arden Moore: With cats, you never force you always negotiate.

00:25:42.060 --> 00:25:43.780
Arden Moore: What kind of tips can you give people?

00:25:43.780 --> 00:25:47.340
Arden Moore: Because I think cats deserve to learn things and be enriched.

00:25:47.740 --> 00:25:48.840
Melissa Millet: I think you nailed it first.

00:25:49.040 --> 00:25:50.180
Melissa Millet: Always make it their idea.

00:25:50.200 --> 00:25:54.100
Melissa Millet: And saying no pressure training where they come to me.

00:25:54.480 --> 00:25:57.580
Melissa Millet: So focus where I don't ask for focus.

00:25:57.600 --> 00:25:59.560
Melissa Millet: I stand there and if you look at me, I pay.

00:26:00.920 --> 00:26:03.960
Melissa Millet: I add that and then I do more fundamentals.

00:26:03.980 --> 00:26:07.280
Melissa Millet: I would practice luring and reward small steps.

00:26:07.300 --> 00:26:08.740
Melissa Millet: I would practice targeting.

00:26:09.080 --> 00:26:12.160
Melissa Millet: I would practice having them look at you and follow you around the room.

00:26:12.180 --> 00:26:14.700
Melissa Millet: So we're first we're just rewarding interests and engagement.

00:26:14.920 --> 00:26:16.760
Arden Moore: And what kind of rewards are you giving them?

00:26:16.940 --> 00:26:20.840
Melissa Millet: I like to buy a bunch of different cat treats to see what their favorites are.

00:26:21.800 --> 00:26:25.020
Melissa Millet: I like the there's a something called Inaba chicken.

00:26:25.420 --> 00:26:28.960
Melissa Millet: And yeah, you know, soaked in chicken broth or crab broth.

00:26:29.720 --> 00:26:32.080
Melissa Millet: He's mad at me if he doesn't get exactly that.

00:26:33.060 --> 00:26:35.560
Melissa Millet: Some of my my orange kitten likes temptations.

00:26:35.760 --> 00:26:39.020
Melissa Millet: Sashimi likes meats of any kind.

00:26:39.040 --> 00:26:39.820
Melissa Millet: She loves meat.

00:26:40.720 --> 00:26:42.400
Melissa Millet: And then of course, have you seen those lipsticks?

00:26:43.480 --> 00:26:46.920
Arden Moore: I use them in my class teaching pet first aid for Casey and Kona.

00:26:47.300 --> 00:26:53.700
Arden Moore: And I tell people if you have to ever pill a cat, check with your vet, make sure you can crush the pill, crush the pill.

00:26:53.840 --> 00:27:03.100
Arden Moore: But take one of those liquid yummies and make like a paint strip and then sprinkle on the little bits of the pill and watch your cat just devour it.

00:27:03.140 --> 00:27:05.780
Arden Moore: You never have to wrestle a cat to give a pill.

00:27:05.920 --> 00:27:06.480
Melissa Millet: What do you think?

00:27:06.680 --> 00:27:07.560
Melissa Millet: No, I love that.

00:27:07.580 --> 00:27:09.860
Melissa Millet: And my vet actually keeps those in her office as well.

00:27:10.300 --> 00:27:13.540
Arden Moore: So you got good treats, you start with luring.

00:27:13.920 --> 00:27:17.400
Arden Moore: How do you know with a cat it's time to you push the mark?

00:27:17.420 --> 00:27:18.880
Arden Moore: You need to give them a cat nap.

00:27:19.080 --> 00:27:25.480
Melissa Millet: When starting, many cats have less duration and are less interested in repetition.

00:27:25.500 --> 00:27:26.940
Melissa Millet: It's something that we work up to.

00:27:26.960 --> 00:27:30.500
Melissa Millet: Okay, I would do, you know, five minutes to start.

00:27:30.760 --> 00:27:33.960
Melissa Millet: Also, as I'm training the cat, I'm looking at what does the cat like to do.

00:27:34.480 --> 00:27:38.760
Melissa Millet: And when you teach behaviors that the cat likes, I mean, I'm looking at my Bengal cat.

00:27:38.780 --> 00:27:39.840
Melissa Millet: She loves to leap.

00:27:39.900 --> 00:27:41.320
Melissa Millet: She's movement oriented.

00:27:41.620 --> 00:27:43.560
Melissa Millet: So her tricks are based on movement.

00:27:43.840 --> 00:27:44.200
Arden Moore: Good.

00:27:45.020 --> 00:27:46.600
Arden Moore: And what about for your other cat?

00:27:46.620 --> 00:27:48.200
Arden Moore: What's that cat's go to?

00:27:48.440 --> 00:27:50.040
Melissa Millet: Tonic is very calm.

00:27:50.080 --> 00:27:55.240
Melissa Millet: So I taught him to down and roll over, balance on my feet, walk from foot to foot.

00:27:55.900 --> 00:27:56.600
Melissa Millet: He walks.

00:27:56.740 --> 00:27:59.160
Melissa Millet: He puts his feet on front feet on top of my feet.

00:27:59.180 --> 00:28:09.260
Melissa Millet: We walk together, but the movement oriented Bengal cat is weave through my legs, jump into my arms, rebound off my leg, things that are movement based.

00:28:09.520 --> 00:28:11.000
Arden Moore: That's Shashimi right there, right?

00:28:11.120 --> 00:28:11.440
Melissa Millet: Yes.

00:28:11.760 --> 00:28:12.200
Arden Moore: Okay.

00:28:12.220 --> 00:28:20.660
Arden Moore: And I'm looking at Shashimi on your right shoulder and you have a cat that is a BFF, a best feline friend, right?

00:28:20.740 --> 00:28:21.600
Arden Moore: Look at this cat.

00:28:21.680 --> 00:28:25.500
Arden Moore: The cat's body language is love you, love you, love you.

00:28:25.780 --> 00:28:27.280
Arden Moore: How do you guys get in sync?

00:28:27.440 --> 00:28:31.640
Melissa Millet: That's funny that you caught that because I'm telling you what, this cat spoons with me every night.

00:28:32.580 --> 00:28:36.000
Melissa Millet: I try to type on the computer and she's nudging my hand as I type.

00:28:36.000 --> 00:28:39.760
Melissa Millet: She is obsessed with me and she's just an awesome cat.

00:28:40.140 --> 00:28:43.140
Melissa Millet: A lot of what I do is based on, I do work a lot on trust.

00:28:44.420 --> 00:28:48.240
Melissa Millet: I try to make everything positive, like what you're saying with the pill.

00:28:48.860 --> 00:28:51.180
Melissa Millet: I don't want to be shoving pills down her throat.

00:28:51.200 --> 00:28:57.360
Melissa Millet: If I take a moment and I find a way to give her a pill in a way that's not aversive, then she trusts me.

00:28:57.380 --> 00:29:02.620
Melissa Millet: And so figuring out how I can make my interactions as low stress at their vet.

00:29:02.640 --> 00:29:06.540
Melissa Millet: Things are things that we have to do or fun as possible.

00:29:07.120 --> 00:29:07.620
Arden Moore: I love it.

00:29:08.020 --> 00:29:09.540
Arden Moore: We've just got a few minutes left.

00:29:09.580 --> 00:29:11.780
Arden Moore: I want people to have your backstory.

00:29:12.040 --> 00:29:19.520
Arden Moore: I mean, why aren't you a nuclear physicist or maybe a chef on a Gordon Ramsay restaurant?

00:29:19.760 --> 00:29:21.440
Arden Moore: What got you in with pets?

00:29:21.680 --> 00:29:24.480
Arden Moore: And tell us a little bit about your, how you came to be.

00:29:24.760 --> 00:29:30.580
Melissa Millet: I started out training my own dog in class because she was young and rambunctious, Rottweiler.

00:29:30.840 --> 00:29:32.160
Melissa Millet: She needed training.

00:29:32.180 --> 00:29:34.200
Melissa Millet: I really enjoyed it, took to it.

00:29:34.540 --> 00:29:38.340
Melissa Millet: And then I started teaching classes and I loved it so much.

00:29:38.360 --> 00:29:39.080
Melissa Millet: I just loved it.

00:29:39.180 --> 00:29:42.800
Melissa Millet: I would teach tricks, my dog's tricks every night, all night after class.

00:29:43.140 --> 00:29:43.540
Arden Moore: Nice.

00:29:43.720 --> 00:29:47.980
Melissa Millet: And I had my, and then I created a show by accident to promote.

00:29:48.000 --> 00:29:49.000
Arden Moore: This is in Canada, right?

00:29:49.020 --> 00:29:49.740
Melissa Millet: In Canada.

00:29:49.760 --> 00:29:49.960
Melissa Millet: Yeah.

00:29:49.980 --> 00:29:50.480
Melissa Millet: Near Toronto.

00:29:50.720 --> 00:29:58.920
Melissa Millet: And then after I created the show to promote my business, I got an agent called on the first day and I thought, wow, we can, we can do this as a career.

00:29:58.940 --> 00:29:59.580
Melissa Millet: This is crazy.

00:30:00.520 --> 00:30:01.580
Melissa Millet: Right place, right time.

00:30:01.600 --> 00:30:03.280
Melissa Millet: I'm not sure I would have thought about it after.

00:30:03.920 --> 00:30:10.020
Melissa Millet: And from there I was discovered into the world of film when, when they were looking for a cat trainer.

00:30:10.120 --> 00:30:11.800
Arden Moore: There's not a lot of you out there, are there?

00:30:12.020 --> 00:30:13.260
Melissa Millet: No, there's not.

00:30:13.680 --> 00:30:15.380
Melissa Millet: It takes a lot of patience, I think.

00:30:15.760 --> 00:30:21.960
Arden Moore: So, in some of these movies, obviously, I don't see Shishimi wearing a gold plated diamond necklace.

00:30:21.980 --> 00:30:24.860
Arden Moore: So it's not all about the money, is it?

00:30:24.940 --> 00:30:26.580
Arden Moore: You may get rich, you may not, right?

00:30:26.700 --> 00:30:28.000
Arden Moore: But you're enriched.

00:30:28.280 --> 00:30:28.820
Melissa Millet: That's right.

00:30:28.880 --> 00:30:36.980
Melissa Millet: I think people assume that those in the film industry are driving around in Ferraris, but the work is spotty and the pay is separated between animals.

00:30:37.000 --> 00:30:40.540
Melissa Millet: So if you have a big job, there's going to be five cats to play the role.

00:30:41.440 --> 00:30:42.240
Arden Moore: Oh, there you go.

00:30:42.780 --> 00:30:48.240
Arden Moore: So, what's your parting message you want to share with people and how can people follow you?

00:30:48.560 --> 00:30:53.720
Melissa Millet: I would say we have a big message for working with disabled dogs that they do make incredible pets.

00:30:54.140 --> 00:30:56.160
Melissa Millet: Well, I have five disabled dogs on our show.

00:30:56.180 --> 00:30:57.920
Melissa Millet: My sister has a deaf dog as well.

00:30:57.980 --> 00:31:02.980
Melissa Millet: And I have a puppy that has spina bifida and she is an incredibly inspirational little dog.

00:31:03.000 --> 00:31:06.000
Melissa Millet: We want them to know not to overlook these incredible pets.

00:31:06.540 --> 00:31:10.200
Melissa Millet: When it comes to cats, these friends love to work as much as dogs.

00:31:10.200 --> 00:31:15.100
Melissa Millet: It's a great way to provide mental stimulation for animals that spend a lot of time indoors.

00:31:15.120 --> 00:31:19.040
Melissa Millet: So consider training your kitty cat that you have at home.

00:31:19.480 --> 00:31:20.340
Arden Moore: How do we find you?

00:31:20.480 --> 00:31:22.520
Melissa Millet: You can find me on Facebook or Instagram.

00:31:22.520 --> 00:31:30.580
Melissa Millet: The Ultimuts is my favorite place to share amazing videos and programs that you can get involved in if you're looking for cat training.

00:31:30.780 --> 00:31:31.300
Arden Moore: I love it.

00:31:31.540 --> 00:31:35.220
Arden Moore: And everybody please give a pause and applause to Melissa Millet.

00:31:35.320 --> 00:31:40.380
Arden Moore: I mean, she's the real deal, and so are her pets that are working pets.

00:31:40.400 --> 00:31:42.200
Arden Moore: They're living full lives.

00:31:42.500 --> 00:31:44.280
Arden Moore: They're not just snoozing on a couch.

00:31:44.640 --> 00:31:47.880
Arden Moore: I also want to give a shout out to my producer, Mark Winter.

00:31:48.240 --> 00:31:51.760
Arden Moore: He is the executive producer of PetLife Radio.
