Lindsey Wolko, Center for Pets Safety
Lindsey Wolko is an internationally recognized pet safety and consumer advocate. She works on behalf of pet owners to ensure the safety of pet products and bring oversight and accountability to the highly unregulated $100B pet products industry. When her dog was injured by a safety harness in 2004, after years of industry research, she conducted a ground-breaking pilot study that produced disturbing findings and launched a mission.
Center for Pet Safety (CPS) was founded in 2011 as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to work on behalf of pet owners and strategically improve pet product quality. Using scientific testing to measure product performance, CPS uses collected data to establish measurement techniques and develop test protocols and ratings systems to ensure product efficacy and safety.
In 2011 Ms. Wolko developed and conducted the Crashworthiness Analysis of Canine Automotive Restraints Size: Large (Pilot Study) that scientifically examined the efficacy of safety harnesses. In response to that initial study, she founded the Center for Pet Safety. Subsequent studies examining harnesses, crates, carriers and pet travel seats were sponsored by Subaru of America and directed by Ms. Wolko. Lindsey is also credited with developing the first instrumented and weighted Canine Test Device (Crash Test Dog).
The data collected from the studies provided information needed to author the first safety standards for pet travel products. In 2014 the Center for Pet Safety Certified program was announced. Pet owners can now look for the CPS logo on products that meet the organization’s rigorous testing and performance requirements.
Lindsey originates from McLean, Virginia and currently resides in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. She holds a bachelors degree from George Mason University.
