Max the Giant Poodle Helps Take the "Bite" Out of Dental Visits
Going to the dentist usually rates low on favorite must-see places for most people. However, thanks to a very special therapy dog in Dallas, the appointment book for Dr. Carole Ann Boyd is always full. Dr. Boyd teams up with Max the Giant Poodle to help reduce anxiety and stress in patients while performing award-winning dental care. Carole Ann Boyd, DDS, has a general and cosmetic dental practice in Dallas, TX. She is a strong believer in the benefits of therapy dogs to help calm patients and reduce anxiety, specifically in a dental setting. Max, her silver standard poodle therapy dog, is an essential part of her practice. He literally hugs away the anxieties of nervous and uncertain patients. He is known as Max the Giant Poodle on Facebook. Max also does therapy visits at the Magdalen House, visits friends in hospitals and also at Temple Emanu-el and Wilshire Baptist Church.
Dr. Boyd received her doctor of dental surgery degree from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1984. She has also completed fellowships in geriatric dentistry and medical ethics. In 1992, she re-established the Dental Clinic at the Nelson-Tebedo Clinic for AIDS research and was director of dental services until 1996. She is a former clinical assistant profession at Baylor College of Dentistry and is now in private practice at Highland Park Place.
Her hobbies include cooking, golf, photography, scuba diving, birding and travel. She was gien the Dallas Extra Mile Award in 1996 for her community service and was voted the best dentist by the Dallas Voice readers multiple years, including 2019.
